When Masooda Mesderot or Nisim of Tiberias see Amir Ohana - they don't care about his sexual orientation but much more about his right-wing orientation • He is not only gay

When ultra-Orthodox elected officials bowed their faces during the speech of the elected speaker of the Knesset, Amir Ohana, may he have good and long days, they may have been shocked by the revolution taking place before their eyes, but they may have seen far ahead: the speaker of the Knesset is one of the "seven symbols of government" in the State of Israel , alongside the President of the State, the Prime Minister, the President of the Supreme Court, the Minister of Defense, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Chairman of the Opposition.

The Speaker of the Knesset is one of those holders of five individual positions who are entitled to be buried after their death in the Nation's Great Plot on Mount Herzl, together with his/her spouse - unless the eligible choose otherwise.

Ohana is the first openly gay person in the position, and the meaning for a large part of the nation is clear.

But how can that be?

For many weeks, everywhere they make sure to tell us about the right-wing-Orthodox-Orthodox government that is going to stand up here, and in a moment, literally in a moment, will start marking LGBT people and denying them medical treatment or entry to hotels.

How did the same people who are going to persecute gays and lesbians raise their hand in favor of a declared gay for such a senior state position?

The answer to this lies in understanding the magnitude of the revolution brought about by Amir Ohana.

There are those who think that revolutions should be made with a lot of noise and struggles, but sometimes there are revolutions that are made precisely by the quiet and simple way.

The fact that a senior representative of the Second Israel is an avowed gay who lives in a relationship with a man and raises children, and this simply does not excite any of his voters - for better or for worse - is the great revolution.

And Ohana, to remind you, is not in politics because some leader decided to put him in the position, he is in this place after being elected by thousands of Likud members and reaching the top of the list.

And when Netanyahu decided to appoint him to the state position, none of his partners in the right-wing conservative bloc were moved by his sexual orientation.

Pay attention to who voted for his appointment in the Knesset Plenum - Maoz and Smotrich, Ben Gabir and Strock, Gafni and Goldknopf.

The same people who a moment ago told us that they eat LGBT people for breakfast and are simply haters of people. In "Great Country" they presented us with what kind of "treatment" they are going to give to LGBT people.

When Masooda Mesderot or Nisim of Tiberias see Amir Ohana - they don't care about his sexual orientation but much more about his right-wing orientation.

They don't see him as LGBT and nothing else, but see him as a human being. A complete human being who has complexities like anyone else. He is a proud Israeli (not in the LGBT sense of the word), he is a proud Jew, he is a proud Zionist, a Mizrahi Proud, he is a lot of things before he is also simply proud (yes in the LGBT sense). It's just another ingredient in a whole that they love.

100 pride parades in Be'er Sheva or Jerusalem, and thousands of "Parent 1, Parent 2" posters, will not do what Ohana did for a boy who grew up in the periphery, whose entire social range belongs to what is known as the second Israel, but at the same time he himself is attracted to men.

He can look at Ohana and know that it's okay - he can be gay and right-wing, gay and conservative.

And above all to know that his sexual orientation is his personal matter only and should not necessarily be related to the bag of values he carries on his back.
