The workers of the Hebrew learning frameworks fought to enter into the salary agreement with the teachers union, but were left out with promises of a separate agreement. When they saw that they received an advance like the other teachers, they thought that the struggle was successful - but in the next slip they were deceived: "Salt on the wounds". The Ministry of Education gave the teachers who teach in the studio a salary increase - and took it back a month later.

The teachers of the Hebrew studios fought to enter the salary agreement signed with the teachers' union, and despite the promises they were left out.

When they received an advance for the agreement like the other teachers, some of them already thought that the struggle was successful.

In the next slip, hope has already turned to rage.

"They are pouring salt on our wounds," accused Yifat Habar, a teacher at the studio in Rehovot.

Haber and the other studio teachers saw in the payslip they received for the month of November that it included an "advance payment for the salary agreement" amounting to NIS 496, and a reduction of a similar amount in the last payslip.

"We were not included in the agreement, we were discriminated against and now they are also taking money that they have already transferred. They gave us candy and kidnapped it."

About 450 teachers work in dozens of settings that teach Hebrew to immigrants.

The studio teachers are under the Histadrut of Teachers and pay it a monthly fee.

Despite this, they were not included in the last wage increase, nor the one before it, in the "New Horizon" agreement signed in 2008.

Thus, the gap from other teachers is growing: today their starting salary is about NIS 5,000, compared to NIS 9,000 that a school teacher would earn.

About a year ago, the Education Committee floated the issue.

The chair of the committee, Sharan Hashakal, called on the Ministries of Education and Finance and the Teachers' Union to come together and find a solution, and the representative of the Ministry of Education promised that the issue would come up in the talks on the new salary agreement. When the talks came, the Secretary General of the Teachers' Union, Yaffe Ben David, called on them to join the strike, and according to the studio teachers, she promised " take care of them" in the agreement.

After the signing, Ben David explained their deviation by saying that the Ministry of Finance only agreed to a small increase in their salary.

"A unique salary agreement must be made for the studios. We will work together with all the relevant parties to bring the issue to light within the framework of an appropriate salary agreement as soon as possible," she wrote to them.

Suzy Atar, a teacher at the studio in Tel Aviv, does not believe that this will happen soon.

"Every time they tell us no this year. We showed Lipa Ben David slips and she said, 'Wow, is that your salary?'. We agreed to her request to go on strike and left the immigrants at home for that.

Then she said she would take care of a separate agreement for us and since then nothing has happened.

They betrayed us."

According to her, the latest zigzag in the paychecks was just another blow in the chain.

"We were so happy that we would not be exceptional, we had teachers who thought that we had finally entered into an agreement. They took money from us that people had already wasted."

She clarified: "We are in such a bad situation that I try all day to convince teachers not to leave. They are not supporting their families."

The bar joined her words.

"We give our soul to the students, and in the end I don't turn on the heating because I can't afford it. We sit at home with blankets so as not to use electricity."

The Ministry of Education stated in response that "the studio teachers were not included in the agreement signed with the Teachers' Union and the issue of their salary is being handled by the salary supervisor at the Ministry of Finance. The advance payment was mistakenly paid by the accountants and because of this, the advance payment was taken back."
