There were two major fires in Reisholz and Heerdt.
The population has been warned.
Düsseldorf – While in most NRW cities it was mainly small fires that kept the fire brigade busy on New Year's Eve, there were two major operations in Düsseldorf.
Two major fires occupied the fire brigade early Sunday morning.
First there was a fire at a recycling center in the Reisholz district.
Later there was a fire in a hall in Düsseldorf-Heerdt.
In both cases, the population was warned via the NINA warning app and the KATWARN warning app.

Major fire in Düsseldorf-Reisholz: Fire at the recycling center
The first fire was reported around 12:30 a.m. on New Year's Eve, reports 24RHEIN.
A caller reported a fire on Karl-Hohmann-Strasse in Reisholz.
Paper rolls and residual waste, including plastic, burned wildly there.
"When the first emergency services arrived at the scene just a few moments later, the flames were already several meters high in the night sky," reports the fire brigade.
Although the fire brigade immediately began to extinguish the fire, the fire was initially able to spread further and further.
Driven by the wind, the flames even spread to a railway embankment.
A railway line on the back of the recycling center had to be closed overnight after consultation between the fire brigade and Deutsche Bahn.
The fire was under control by 3:15 a.m.
A firefighter at the scene was injured trying to put out the blaze.
He sustained burns on his forearm.

As a precaution, air measurements were taken in the Reisholz area.
"The measurements were able to detect small amounts of chlorine that were below the limit values," said the fire brigade.
So there was no risk.
The operation was only over at around 7 a.m. on New Year's Day.
It is not yet clear what caused the fire and how much damage was caused.
The police have started the investigation.
While the extinguishing work was still going on in Reisholz, the Düsseldorf fire brigade received the next emergency call at around 4:44 a.m.
This time a major fire was reported in the Heerdt district.
This time a hall on Wiesenstrasse caught fire.
Once again, the fire brigade warned residents of a possible odor nuisance via the warning apps NINA and KATWARN.
Firefighters were able to get the fire under control early in the morning.
In the morning, extinguishing work was still going on, as a fire department spokesman explained when asked by 24RHEIN.
