Venezuela and Colombia today reopened a major bridge between them that had been closed for more than seven years.

The Associated Press reported that two delegations headed by Colombia's Trade Minister German Umaña and Venezuela's Táchira state governor Freddy Bernal met in the middle of the Tendetas Bridge to take part in the reopening.

"The opening of the bridge is an essential symbol of restoring relations between the two countries," said Pedro Benitez, a political analyst and professor at the Central University of Venezuela.

It is noteworthy that the bridge, which was completed in 2016, was established to ease congestion on two other bridges linking the two countries and to facilitate the movement of trade.
