"For 40 years the right-wing has been in power and in the meantime, on every hill in the Arad-Dimona-Bash triangle, a Bedouin grip has been established" - Voila! Local

Special for Walla! My local, Nissan Ben Hamo, Mayor of Arad, on the outgoing and incoming government. "Will the new government know how to move from slogans about governance to actions as promised in the campaign

This week we said goodbye to a government that was good to the State of Israel, to the Negev and in particular to Arad.

The story at the national level is familiar to all of us.

On the other hand, at the municipal and regional level it is a completely different story.

This time we felt that there is a government that knows where Arad is and where the Negev is in general, we realized that it heard about our enormous challenges and it also knew how to start acting in order to give the necessary answers.

Already in the first days of the government's tenure, government ministers and Knesset members of the outgoing coalition began arriving in Arad.

After years of the central government ignoring the city's residents, we suddenly felt a hug, warmth and love.

The Minister of Tourism was with us for the inauguration of the Israel Bicycle Trail and the laying of a cornerstone for a luxury hotel of a large chain.

The Minister of the Economy visited, the Minister of Housing came to a working meeting, as did the Minister of Welfare, the Minister of Development of the Negev and the Galilee inaugurated two projects, one for an accessible community and the other for new immigrants.

And we also had the minister of absorption and the minister of internal security, and most importantly, we had the first official visit of a prime minister for the first time in 25 years.

Prime Minister Yair Lapid who came to us to sign an economic agreement.

The outgoing government has put its stamp on the city's future

For the first time in many years, she passed a historic government decision to Arad and the settlements of the Eastern Negev, a budget of 400 million NIS to be divided between all of them.

Budget for infrastructure, education, employment development.

This government, together with the city administration, accepted all the previous reservations of the municipality, and signed an urban development agreement with us in the amount of hundreds of millions of shekels, hereinafter referred to as a roof agreement, and the road was paved and clear.

Now a new government has been elected and established

We are not angry.

Maybe a little disappointed, but we respect the will of the voters, because this is democracy!

Will the new government be good for Arad and the Negev?

Will she know how to maintain the status quo?

Can we continue to maintain the city as secular, liberal and pluralistic?

Today, residents from different sectors live in the city, veterans, immigrants, seculars, ultra-Orthodox, Jews and non-Jews, and the city is calm and pleasant.

Everyone lives their lives in peace and quiet.

Will the representatives of the new government start a fire and rebellion, will the Jewish wars return?

God probably has solutions...

And in general, will the new government keep its promises to all the residents of the Eastern Negev?

Will she build another hospital in the Negev?

Will it build a civilian airport in Nabatim?

For 40 years the right-wing has been in power, and in the meantime a Bedouin stronghold has been established on every hill in the Arad-Dimona-Bash triangle. The wall guard operation, in which Arad was under siege due to riots by young Bedouins, took place at the end of the right-wing's term. Governance was then lost. Will the new government know how to move beyond slogans On the government to do as Sharia promised in the campaign? Will she know how to build a respectful relationship with the Bedouin diaspora? Will she restore the sense of security to the residents of the Negev, or will we discover that these were all empty promises.

I have no doubt that the government's success will be a success for all of us. In the meantime, the burden of proof She is on it.
