In the southern district of Ebersberg, irrationality on dangerous routes is a frequent cause of accidents.

But there are other reasons too.

District – The school bus accident in May 2019 near Herrmannsdorf in the southern district triggered heated discussions, right up to the district council.

Two buses collided on a Friday, 15 children were injured, three of them seriously.

They were flown to a clinic by helicopter.

The bus drivers were also affected.

A large contingent of BRK, police and fire brigade was on site.

Accident near Herrmannsdorf

According to the police, the 46-year-old driver of a school bus coming from Herrmannsdorf wanted to turn towards Aßling.

He apparently ignored the right of way of another school bus, as was the case at the time.

After the accident, a collection room was set up in a remote area of ​​the farm in the nearby Herrmannsdorf workshops to look after the children and the parents who had rushed to the site.

At that time, help from different sides was quickly on site.

Among other things, there were also demands for a roundabout at the confluence.

And it was about seat belts being compulsory on school buses.

The route is noted in the list of black spots for the period between 2018 and 2020.

There was also a reaction.

School buses theme

The subject is very sensitive.

Before that, in December 2015, there had been a school bus accident very close to Glonn with injured children.

A large contingent of around 100 emergency services was at the scene of the accident.

At the same time, many of the worried mothers and fathers arrived at the scene of the accident.

"We are glad that things went smoothly, it was dramatic enough as it was," said Matthias Holzbauer, head of the Ebersberg District Fire Inspectorate, to EZ at the time.

At Herrmannsdorf, too, it was a major effort.

According to Stephan Mittermaier, the chief inspector responsible for the traffic area in the Ebersberg inspection and for the accident commission in the district, the collision between the two school buses near Herrmanndorf is included in the current list of accident black spots because it belongs to the reporting period.

The focus, however, is a longer section of state road 2079 from Glonn to the east.

According to the police, there is now an overtaking ban in the affected section, a limit of 70 kilometers per hour, a "marked drop" on the road as a visible signal in the Herrmannsdorf junction area and increased speed monitoring.

It remains to be seen how the situation will develop further.

Curvy through the forest

Another point in the list of accident black spots: State road 2080 between Straußdorf and Aßling.

Among other things, it goes through a wooded area.

In this area, accidents involving overtakers, mainly involving motorcycles, have occurred.

Measures taken: No overtaking by applying a solid line, flexible guidance systems and direction signs in the curve area.

Also means: The signs are visible.

But if someone crashes into it in an accident, they partially give way - intentionally due to structural reasons.

Route through the forest

Next accident frequency: State road 2086 from Ebersberg to Hohenlinden through the forest on the Schafweide, i.e. the disposal center of the district, in the middle of the forest.

There were two fatal traffic accidents there between 2018 and 2020.

Possible reasons: turning accident or excessive speed.

A ban on overtaking and a speed limit of 70 kilometers per hour were ordered.

The "Mountain Route"

Also striking is the EBE 12 district road near Moosach, between Schattenhofen and Altenburg, i.e. roughly between Zorneding and Moosach.

Anyone familiar with it sees it almost as a mountain route through a narrow valley with a narrow road.

Therefore also accidents in oncoming traffic.

There are alternative bays.

But some don't use them, can't wait.

Measures taken to achieve an improvement: Signs pointing out the danger point.

Incidentally, the Accident Commission did not advocate a speed reduction.

The sign could give the impression "I can drive that fast".

That might be too dangerous for oncoming traffic.

Another option would be to fundamentally rebuild the route and widen the road.

Clear slopes, fell trees.

That would cause conflict.

And of course it is also a question of costs.

Dangerous overtakers

Next point: Bruck, EBE 13, just before the municipal boundary with Glonn.

Near forest area.

According to police records, there were accidents when overtaking.

Measures taken: solid line, i.e. no overtaking, also improved grip on the road surface.

Strikingly diffuse location

A special situation results from the statistics of the accident shear focal points evaluated by computer program for the EBE 20, from Steinhöring to the north at the level of Niederaltmannsberg.

The following points are listed: traffic accidents with wheelchair users, alcohol accidents, wildlife accidents with injured persons.

The Accident Commission does not propose any measures for this route.

So far, no common abnormalities have been identified to which one could react.

"But we will continue to monitor this as well as all other points," says Chief Inspector Mittermaier from the Ebersberg inspection.
