Alpes-Maritimes: at least 14 vehicles burned and a dozen individuals arrested on New Year's Eve

The Maralpine authorities have apparently learned the lessons of the excesses in Nice on the sidelines of the semi-final and the final of the football World Cup at the end of December.

In fact, the night of New Year's Eve went well overall throughout the department, thanks to a consequent mobilization of the police, with 700 police officers and gendarmes deployed and almost as many firefighters.

However, the decree prohibiting the sale, possession and use of pyrotechnic devices on the public highway is far from being respected.

While most of the wild fireworks were fired into the sky for celebratory purposes, law enforcement also came under heavy mortar fire from young offenders.

Three police officers were "

slightly injured in Nice in the exercise of their function

", detailed the prefect Gonzalès.

Rue Trachel and Maurice-Maccario, in Nice, municipal police officers also had to use their LBD.

Still according to the prefect, the police and gendarmes arrested 6 individuals throughout the department.

The municipal police of Nice arrested 5 people, 3 for damage by fire, one for damage and the last for theft with violence.
