"We sold 500 dozen oysters this time, more than ever before": Veronika Dupuy from Unterstrogn, a member of the Bockhorn-Magnac committee, was overwhelmed.

The majority of French seafood specialties went to customers who had pre-ordered online.

But many from the community and the neighborhood also came to Rathausplatz on New Year's Eve to spontaneously try it out.

Bockhorn – Or to toast the upcoming turn of the year with friends and acquaintances over a glass of white wine in the morning at this traditional event.

Long queues formed both at the oyster sales stand and at the wine tasting.

"This time we had two white wines from France on offer: a slightly sweeter one from Provence and a slightly stronger one from the Bordeaux region," explained Helmut Daschinger, who served with Helmut Hinterwimmer.

His wife, meanwhile, was helping under the big tent in front of the town hall entrance, preparing white bread with a goose rillette, a kind of lard, refined with juniper berries and garlic.

"We offer this as an alternative for all those who don't like oysters but still want to eat something with the wine," explains Odile Binding from Grünbach.

She and her husband Markus have been members of the committee for a long time.

While she helped with sales and organization, her husband and French people from the community used special knives to open the oysters that customers had just bought and now wanted to eat.

But many also took their orders home with them, for example as a starter for the evening New Year's Eve menu.

"We probably have the biggest oyster sales campaign in Bavaria here," speculated Odile Binding and Veronika Dupuy, whose garage at home had to serve as a temporary cold store.

"On Wednesday, the refrigerated truck arrived from France, and oysters must not be stored warmer than six degrees," explained the wife of David Dupuy, the organizer of the seafood.

He himself was not able to take part this time, as he was recovering from flu at home.

But many others had great fun with the hustle and bustle.

For example Hans Handel and his wife Anneliese from Schwarzholzl.

“We love the informal atmosphere here, meet other people and take six dozen oysters home with us.” Klaus and Doris Oehm from Grünbach also came by bike.

They enjoyed their twelve oysters right at the bar table, complemented by a good sip of white wine.

Former Mayor Hans Schreiner and his family were also satisfied with the great success of the event, which took place during his tenure.

He was probably one of the few people who have already enjoyed oysters in their home country - on a few visits to the partner municipality of Magnac.
