Busy New Year's Eve in Olching

Olching - After a two-year Corona break, fireworks and firecrackers were sold again this year for New Year's Eve.

This led to a lively deployment of the responsible fire brigades, police officers and rescue services.

The Olching volunteer fire brigade now took stock and was called to six operations on New Year's Eve 2022/2023.

The first alert from the integrated control center in Fürstenfeldbruck (ILS) was received at 0.16 a.m., a hedge had caught fire on Münchner Straße.

"While the first forces arrived in the equipment shed, the control center informed us about another scene with a burning tree on Münchner Straße," explains Dennis Reiter, second in command.

Local residents had already started to try to extinguish the fire, and the firefighters then extinguished the burning hedge and checked it with the thermal imaging camera.

Fireworks and batteries start fires

While the operational readiness was being restored in the equipment house, the ILS called the Olching volunteer fire brigade to Emmeringer Straße.

"There, a stray firecracker had probably ignited a wooden fence and a garden shed," says Reiter.

The flames were quickly extinguished with two pipes, after a final check with the thermal imaging camera for embers, the site could be handed over to the residents.

On the way back to the equipment house, the vehicles passed a large pile of spent fireworks batteries on Rosshaupterplatz, which had ignited again.

The batteries were extinguished with an extinguishing bucket because the ILS informed the firefighters by radio about another operation in Nöscherstrasse.

Improperly disposed of New Year's leftovers had led to a fire in the small recycling center there.

After the burning container was extinguished, the scene was handed over to the police.

A fence and a garden shed also caught fire.

Last action on New Year's Eve

At 4:17 a.m., the control center alerted the fire brigade to the last operation of the night to support the rescue service with a resuscitation.

The originally planned rescue of the patient using a turntable ladder was not possible due to the conditions on site, which is why the patient was carried with muscle power through the narrow stairwell to the ambulance.

By 5 a.m. all operations had been completed and the vehicles and equipment were ready for action again.
