In the new year, consumers expect cost increases in some areas.

However, those who have received Hartz IV so far can be happy – as can 1.4 million other households.

Munich – With the turn of the year, many households are faced with a cash collapse.

Contracts and insurances are checked and offers are combed through.

That makes perfect sense, because 2023 will also see some innovations in the field of finance.

The most important changes for 2023 at a glance:

Car insurance is getting more expensive

If you have your own car, you have to expect higher costs in 2023.

The price level for motor vehicle insurance generally increases at the turn of the year, for example because improved hull classifications are not passed on to customers.

At the same time, accidents or car repairs in the past can be reflected in premium increases that make insurance cover more expensive.

There are also numerous changes in the regional classes.

Rising health insurance contributions

Not only drivers will have to dig deeper into their pockets in many cases in the future.

There are also price adjustments with many statutory health insurance companies.

For the insured, the health insurance contributions – currently an average of 15.9 percent – will probably be increased by 0.3 points to an average of 16.2 percent.

More households are receiving housing benefit

In the coming year, up to 1.4 million more households are to join the current 600,000 housing benefit households.

The housing allowance is also to be increased by an average of 190 euros per month.

This means that eligible households receive an average of around 370 euros per month.

Households that do not receive social benefits but still have little money can apply for housing benefit.

Citizens' income replaces Hartz IV

From January 1, 2023, the citizen’s income will replace the previous Hartz IV system.

The payments in the basic security increase by more than 50 euros, single people will receive 502 euros in the future.

Significant parts of the reform will not come into force until July 1st.

The job centers should be able to take better care of the unemployed.

The placement in permanent work instead of simple helper jobs should be better than before.

Rising home insurance premiums

The consumer center NRW warns of noticeable increases in building insurance.

Among other things, she refers to the flood disaster in the summer of 2021, which was very expensive for insurers.

In addition, record inflation with rising craft, material and construction costs are driving up insurance prices.
