A fire in Hückelhoven (NRW) caused a large-scale operation by the fire brigade on Monday.
A mother and her child were freed in a dramatic rescue operation.
Hückelhoven – The fire brigade rescued a mother and her child from a burning house in Hückelhoven (Heinsberg district in North Rhine-Westphalia) on Monday.
As a spokesman for the fire brigade reports, a fire broke out around 12:15 p.m. in the entrance area of a former colliery building in the Ratheim district, reports 24RHEIN.

Hückelhoven: Fire in the house - mother and child want to save themselves on the roof
The fire brigade speaks of a "massive smoke development" that blocked the escape route for mother and child.
The mother then fled with her child to the upper floor of the residential building.
But then the situation became more and more dramatic.
"When the first forces arrived, the people were already trying to flee through a skylight to the roof, which could be prevented by persuading the forces, as there was a massive risk of falling," reports the fire brigade spokesman.
The emergency services were then able to save the mother and her child from the densely smoke-filled house via ladders.
"They were immediately handed over to the emergency services, who treated them first and then took them to a hospital with a children's department," the spokesman continued.

Firefighters were then able to force open the front door and extinguish the fire.
When checking the other rooms in the house, the emergency services found two injured cats.
They too were rescued and taken to a veterinarian.
The house is uninhabitable due to the heavy smoke.
The police confiscated it and started investigating.
There is no information as to the cause of the fire so far.
Already on the New Year's weekend, the fire brigade was in continuous operation in many parts of NRW.
In Düsseldorf alone, two major fires kept the firefighters on their toes for hours.
