(CNN) ––
Air traffic control problems have caused flight delays of several hours at Florida airports, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) told CNN.
"The FAA has reduced the volume of traffic in Florida airspace due to an air traffic computer issue that is being resolved," the agency said in a statement.
A publicly available State of the Airspace advisory shows flight delays averaging two hours and a maximum delay of six hours.
The FAA indicated that the problem is with the Route Modernization Automation (ERAM) system at the Miami Air Route Traffic Control Center, which is responsible for controlling millions of cubic miles of airspace. for commercial flights over Florida.
Hours before, the FAA indicated that this Monday would be a day of high travel attendance after the Christmas festivities with 42,000 scheduled flights, and "possibly a greater volume from south to north."
