On New Year's Eve, a house in Holzkirchen burned down completely.

Holzkirchen

- In Holzkirchen, a residential building burned down on the night of New Year's Day 2023.

Around 5.30 a.m., the fire brigade had to move out to the Auf der Höh property.

Holzkirchen: House burns out on New Year's Eve

The alarm went off around 5:30 a.m. on Sunday morning.

When the rescue workers arrived at the Auf der Höh site – a cul-de-sac on the western outskirts of Holzkirchen – the house was already on fire.

Fortunately, the residents of the one-storey property – a family of four – had already escaped to the outside, says fire brigade operations manager and district fire inspector Andreas Schwabenbauer on request.

All four were unharmed.

Unfortunately, one cat didn't make it out of the building in time;

the animal was killed, police report.

In addition to the rescue service and the police, 110 volunteer fire brigades in Holzkirchen, Föching, Hartpenning, Otterfing and Mitterdarching arrived on site to get the flames under control and to shield two neighboring buildings so that the fire could not spread to them.

The location of the bungalow in a narrow cul-de-sac made it difficult to extinguish the fire, says Schwabenbauer.

The operation lasted until 8 a.m., then the fire brigades were able to move away for the time being.

Two hours later, another alarm followed after a nest of embers had developed again.

"But that was under control after 15 minutes," says Schwabenbauer.

The cause of the fire is so far unclear.

The permanent criminal service has started the investigation, reports the police headquarters in Upper Bavaria.

The building was so damaged by fire and smoke that it is uninhabitable, explains District Fire Councilor Anton Riblinger, who was also on site during the operation.

The family has stayed with relatives for the time being.
