Iranian justice has confirmed the death sentence of a man involved in the protests sparked in the country by the death in custody of a young woman, announced Monday Mizan Online, the agency of the judiciary.

"

Mohammad Boroghani's death sentence was upheld on December 6 by the Supreme Court

," according to Mizan Online.

Mohammad Boroghani was being prosecuted for “

moharebeh

” (“

enemy of God

” in Persian), a charge punishable by death, and his trial began on 29 October.

According to Mizan Online, he had "

The death sentence of a second defendant, Mohammad Ghobadlou, was upheld on 24 December.

These two defendants therefore no longer have any recourse and can be executed at any time.

Justice has announced that it has sentenced 11 people to death for their role in the protests.

Activists believe that figure is higher.

Two of these convicts have already been hanged, found guilty of killing or injuring members of the security forces or paramilitaries.

Three others, including a Kurdish rapper, will be retried by decision of the Supreme Court.

Decisions on the appeal filed by four other convicts have not yet been made public.

The protests erupted after the death on September 16 of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Kurd who died following her arrest by vice squad for violating the Islamic Republic's strict dress code, including the wearing of the veil for women. .

The authorities, who denounce "

riots

" orchestrated by foreign countries and opposition groups, have arrested thousands of people.
