The government is expected to approve, in its second meeting so far, the appointments of ministers and deputy ministers in the government. According to the coalition agreements, Netanyahu appointed four deputy ministers in his office, although according to the law he is only allowed two. Now, Likud is considering appointing the deputies elsewhere or changing the government's Basic Law

The ministers of the 37th government will gather tomorrow (Tuesday) for the second time for a government meeting, where they are expected to approve the appointments of the deputy ministers in the government and the establishment of the political and security cabinet and a ministerial committee for Shin Bet affairs. This will be the first meeting of the 37th government following the ceremonial meeting last week after the swearing in

The first issue on the government's agenda is the appointments of the deputy ministers.

According to the coalition agreements, seven deputy minister positions in the government were shared: four deputy ministers in the Prime Minister's Office - Avi Maoz, Uri Makleb, Almog Cohen and Mai Golan, Deputy Minister of Finance Michal Waldiger (religious Zionism), Deputy Minister of Interior and Health Moshe Arbel and Deputy Minister of Agriculture Moshe Abutbul (Shas) and Deputy Minister of Culture and Sports Yitzhak Tesler (Torah Judaism).

However, Prime Minister-designate Benjamin Netanyahu distributed too many deputy ministers in his ministry than the law allows;

The Basic Law of the Government clearly states that the Prime Minister may appoint two Deputy Ministers in the Prime Minister's Office, while Netanyahu appointed four.

In the meantime, the appointment of Almog Cohen of Jewish Power and of Mai Golan of the Likud in the Prime Minister's Office has not been brought to the government's approval. The Likud is considering appointing them to other ministries or changing the Basic Law of the Government so that there would be no limit on the allocation, which would require a postponement of their appointment until the legislation is completed.
