Throughout Bavaria, there were rather smaller New Year's Eve missions for the rescue workers.

Not so in Upper Bavaria, where a house burned, and a barn also caught fire.

Munich – Like a “typical New Year’s Eve before Corona” – this is how a police spokesman from Lower Franconia described the number of operations at this year’s turn of the year on Sunday morning.

New Year's Eve in Bavaria: Smaller operations due to fires and disturbances

In the rest of the Free State, too, it was mainly smaller operations that kept the police and fire brigade busy.

In most administrative districts, the emergency services at the turn of the year mainly dealt with minor fires, disturbances of the peace, physical injuries and damage to property caused by firecrackers.

In Swabia and Upper Bavaria, on the other hand, there were also serious fires.

New Year's Eve in Munich: 20,000 celebrate at Marienplatz

According to the police, New Year's Eve was rather quiet in Munich.

Around 20,000 people celebrated the start of the new year at Marienplatz and in the pedestrian zone.

The city had issued a complete ban on fireworks in this area.

In seven cases, the police reported violations of this ban.

The Munich police also received around ten calls from dog and cat owners whose four-legged friends had run away frightened by New Year's Eve crackers.

In several cases, people who had run into animals reported.

Some of the owners found their animals that way.

There were larger operations in Upper Bavaria and Swabia: A resident was slightly injured in a house fire in Leobendorf (Berchtesgadener Land).

The cause of the fire was initially unclear.

In Tacherting (Traunstein district) a barn was set on fire by rockets.

The fire then spread to an adjacent home.

Nobody got hurt.
