Le Figaro Bordeaux
The year is barely beginning, but several changes are already appearing in Bordeaux and the conurbation in 2023. New sorting instructions, an experiment on the ring road, the extinction of part of the public lighting, or even public water management and the extension of paid parking.
New waste sorting instructions
The sorting bin is no longer just for paper and cardboard.
Since January 1, 2023, in the 28 municipalities of Bordeaux Métropole, all plastic packaging (trays, jars and plastic films) and all metal packaging (aluminum foil, coffee capsules, medicine and toothpaste packaging) are deposited now in the recycling bin.
Switching off public lighting at night
That's it, between 1 and 5 a.m., the streets of Bordeaux, outside the pedestrian city center and major axes, are no longer lit.
Nearly 20,000 streetlights are extinguished in the middle of the night.
A decision presented as making it possible to reduce the energy bill by 880,000 euros per year, while protecting nocturnal biodiversity.
Bordeaux thus joins the fourteen municipalities of the metropolis to have already switched off public lighting at night.
The remaining fourteen being "
in the process of extinction
" or in reflection.
This decision was harshly criticized by the municipal opposition.
The water authority becomes public
Since January 1, 2023, drinking water, non-collective sanitation and industrial water services are no longer managed by Suez but by a public company, piloted by the Bordeaux metropolitan area.
About 300,000 subscribers to water services, in 23 of the 28 municipalities of Bordeaux Métropole, are concerned.
This official change has no impact on the price of water (around 0.003 euro per litre) or on how to pay bills.
No cuts are expected.
The public company nevertheless intends to create a preferential rate for the most modest, but not before 2024.
An experiment on the ring road
Several measures are taken to decongest the Bordeaux ring road.
In addition to the 2x3 lanes of the ring road during the year, an experiment is launched from January 2023: heavy goods vehicles will be prohibited from overtaking on the entire northern and western part of the ring road (between interchanges 1 and 15 ).
This ban already concerned certain sectors (the Aquitaine bridge, the François Mitterrand bridge and the Bouliac coast).
Other major projects are also to be planned on the ring road in the coming months: a lane reserved for carpooling, the circulation of buses on the hard shoulder and a modulation of the toll to encourage heavy goods vehicles to avoid the ring road during peak hours.
The extension of paid parking
Paid parking continues to expand gradually in Bordeaux.
The Bordeaux Maritime district is the latest to be affected by this new regulation.
Motorists must now pay €1.80 per hour of parking and cannot stay longer than 24 hours.
In February, there is a charge for parking between the Judaïque and Médoc barriers.
This extension of regulated parking will continue in April at the Bastide, in September between the Toulouse barrier and the Simone Veil bridge and in November south of the Bordeaux park.
Finally, the last phase will take place in January 2024 between the Médoc barrier and the course of the Médoc.
Car parking will then be chargeable on almost all the boulevards on the left bank.
