Dozens to hundreds of Russian soldiers were killed in a New Year's Eve attack on their dormitories in the Ukrainian region of Donetsk occupied by Russia, a source close to the leadership appointed by Russia in the region reported today (Monday).
Videos uploaded to social networks show a building that was apparently used as a dormitory in the mining town of Kiybeka, which was completely destroyed.
According to the source, "just under a hundred people were killed."
The statement was later corrected and it was reported that 63 soldiers were killed.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense said on the other hand that 400 Russians were killed.
The daily report of the Russian Ministry of Defense stated that the army destroyed seven missiles of the HIMRAS system that provides multi-purpose firepower on a wheeled chassis vehicle, which were fired by the Ukrainian forces.

Daniil Bezsonov, an official appointed by Russia, said the dormitory was hit by US-made HIMRAS missiles at midnight, as people in the area celebrated the start of the new year.
"There was a massive attack," he wrote on Telegram.
"There are dead, injured. The exact number is unknown. The building sustained significant damage."
Igor Girkin, a former FSB officer who helped annex the Crimean Peninsula to Russia in 2014 and establish pro-Russian militias in eastern Ukraine, wrote on Telegram that "hundreds were killed and wounded."
According to him, ammunition was also stored in the building.
