Spain's National Meteorological Agency announced that 2022 was the hottest year in the country.
And Agence France-Presse quoted the agency as saying today: 2022 was the hottest year in Spain since at least 1916, stressing that it was the first time that the average annual temperature exceeded 15 degrees Celsius, reaching 15.5 degrees.
The agency stated that for the first time the country witnessed the two consecutive hottest seasons in summer and autumn.
In 2022, Spain and part of Europe were exposed to many scorching heat waves during the summer, as a result of which unparalleled fires broke out, the number of deaths increased, and the level of drought increased.
And the United Nations indicated in early November that the European continent is also the continent most affected by warming weather, as it has recorded a rise in temperatures more than twice the global average over the past 30 years.
Scientists consider the increase in heat waves as a direct result of the climate crisis, with an increase in the intensity, duration and frequency of greenhouse gas emissions.
