The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates affirmed that the Israeli aggression against Damascus International Airport is nothing but a new episode of the crimes of the occupying entity, which has a record full of acts of aggression and violations of international law and the principles and provisions of the United Nations Charter, renewing the call on the Security Council and the United Nations to condemn these Israeli crimes and take urgent action to ensure accountability for them.

The ministry said in two letters to the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the President of the Security Council today, a copy of which SANA received: “At a time when the peoples of the United Nations celebrate Christmas and the New Year and look forward to a year in which crises will recede and peace, prosperity and stability will prevail, the Israeli occupation authorities have decided to add only A new attack on its record full of acts of aggression and violations of international law and the principles and provisions of the Charter of the United Nations, as at 02:00 in the morning today, Monday 2-1-2023, it launched an air aggression with bursts of missiles from the direction of the northeast of Lake Kinneret, targeting Damascus International Civil Airport and its surroundings, which This led to the death of two soldiers, the wounding of two others, material losses, and the loss of Damascus International Airport for some time.”

The Foreign Ministry added: “This aggression is nothing but a new episode of Israeli crimes and the direct targeting of Syria and its steadfast people who adhere to defending their sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity and refuse to interfere in their internal affairs. This Israeli aggression came three days after an attack carried out by (ISIS) terrorists on 12-30-2022 against the workers of the Al-Taym field in Deir ez-Zor, and 10 innocent workers who were heading to their work were killed, and this proves the terrorist coordination between the Israelis and the flocks (ISIS) and the close relationship between the two sides.

The Foreign Ministry pointed out that this Israeli targeting of civilian facilities and infrastructure is not the first of its kind, as the Israeli occupation forces have previously targeted the international airports of Damascus and Aleppo, putting them out of service and disrupting civilian air navigation, including the movement of United Nations air transport aircraft designated to transport aid and humanitarian work. The Israeli attacks on 12-28-2021 affected the civil and commercial port of Latakia, which resulted in severe damage to the port, commercial containers, and aid for United Nations organizations operating in Syria.

The Foreign Ministry said: “Syria condemns this Israeli terrorist targeting of Syrian civilian facilities and structures, and threatens the lives of innocent people and the safety of international civil transport, which constitutes a flagrant violation of international law, international humanitarian law and international human rights law, and a direct threat to regional peace and security, and Syria calls on the Security Council and the General Secretariat To condemn these Israeli attacks and crimes, and to take urgent action to ensure accountability for them and punish those responsible for them and not to repeat them.

The Foreign Ministry confirmed that the Israeli occupation authorities would not have continued to commit these crimes had it not been for the umbrella of impunity and impunity provided to them by the US administration and a handful of its allies.
