We start the year with a wave of price increases in the car market

2023-01-02T05:10:23.966Z

The doubling of the purchase tax on electric cars, and the reduction of tax benefits on other models, this morning lead to a significant increase in the price of the car market. Will consumers be deterred?

The year 2023 opened with a series of price increases that significantly harm the automobile industry as well.

The price of 95 octane gasoline increased by 1.3% and was set at NIS 6.94 per liter in self-service, but even owners of electric cars will now pay more with the electricity tariff increasing by 8.2% last night.

The main blow will probably be borne by the buyers of the new car, who will now pay an additional amount of thousands to tens of thousands of shekels for the right to put a new car in the parking lot.

As every year, not all car importers were in a hurry to publish a new price list last night, and some preferred to "sit on the fence" and wait until the leading importers publish new price lists, which would make the new pricing easier for them.

Among the reasons for the current price increase: the doubling of the tax on electric models from 10% to 20%, the increase of the tax on rechargeable hybrid models from 40% to 55%, another update of the green tax and also sometimes a healthy appetite of the importers who increase their profits and make the The models beyond the tax decrees.

An average increase of NIS 4,000 was recorded in the mini car market.

The popular Kia Picanto EX will now be offered for NIS 92,990.

The Hyundai i10 "Superim" will be offered at exactly the same price and the Chevy Spark, in case you were wondering, will also be offered at the same price for the only LT+ trim level sold here.

The person who may actually benefit from the increase in the price of the fuel-driven mini models is the electric Lipomotor T03 that was recently launched here at a price of NIS 99,900, and in a surprising move, the importer Metro Motor chose to maintain the old price despite the doubling of the tax on electric models and to improve the value for the price.

In the supermini market, which already recorded significant price increases last year, this year also opens with another price increase.

The gasoline Toyota Yaris will increase in price by 3,000 shekels and the price will start from 115,900 shekels for the basic "Sol" version and the hybrid Yaris will increase in price by 5,000 shekels and will start from 127,990 shekels.

The prices of the popular family cars in fleets continue to climb sharply, and if a year ago we were excited by the price of NIS 150,000 for a hybrid Hyundai Elantra, then its new price is climbing and will start at NIS 157,900.

The popular Corolla hybrid models at the leasing companies are also growing by NIS 5,000 and now start at NIS 153,990 for the sedan model in the basic trim level "Sun" and NIS 157,990 for the TS (station) version.

The above-mentioned price increase will also be felt by the leasing customers in their payslips, under the section "Use value of the vehicle" which will soon become more expensive.

The prices of the people's favorite recreational vehicles are also getting more expensive.

The prices of the Yaris Cross models have increased by NIS 5,000 and will start from NIS 129,990 for the basic gasoline model, or NIS 145,990 for the hybrid model.

Toyota C-HR becomes more expensive by 5,000-6,000 shekels and will start from 159,990 shekels for the entry version to 180,000 shekels for the top version, a price for which until recently you could get the larger Rav 4.

The new Corolla Cross, which was launched in the last quarter of this year, is only NIS 1,000 more expensive, and this may be because it was initially priced at a relatively high price.

The Rav 4 model is going up by NIS 2,000-4,000, and will start at NIS 199,990.

Kia Sportage becomes more expensive by NIS 1,000-11,000 and the price will start at NIS 168,900 for the basic 2.0 liter version, and up to NIS 249,900 for the premium plug-in version.

The doubling of the tax imposed on electric cars from 10% to 20% is well reflected in the prices of electric models.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 registers price increases of 14,000-15,000 shekels and the new price will start at 213,900 shekels for the "Prestige" model and the electric buyer's price increases by 4,000 shekels for the entry version which will now be offered for 152,900 shekels.

At Toyota, Laker "only" chose the price of the BZ4X by NIS 10,000, the price of which will start at NIS 239,990 from now on.

The electric Kia Niro Plus also becomes more expensive by NIS 10,000 and the price is set at NIS 199,900.

Importer BYD published a new price list that included a significant price increase of up to NIS 30,000 for its models, but the price list was quickly removed from the company's website and will be replaced by a new one in the coming days.

Volkswagen ID.4 prices also increase by NIS 20,000 and will start from NIS 234,900 for the entry-level version.

Tesla Model 3 prices will start from 242,746 shekels for the SR+ model (an increase of 17,550 shekels), about 289,166 shekels for the long range model (an increase of 17,500 shekels) and from 319,525 shekels for the Performance model, which registers an increase of 19,579 shekels.

The price of the Tesla Model Y will start from NIS 359,848 for the long range model (an increase of NIS 11,251) and from NIS 383,043 for the performance model which registers an increase of NIS 11,998.

At least you can take solace in the fact that the price of the luxury Model S and Model X that just landed remains unchanged.
