After record-breaking temperatures on New Year's Eve, the new year also started with mild temperatures.

The DWD warns of gusts of wind in some locations.

Munich – Bright sunshine and mild temperatures: The year 2022 ended with record-breaking temperatures of up to 20 degrees.

And the new year starts unusually mild for this time of the year.

Despite some gusts of wind, the weather in Germany will remain more spring-like in the coming days.

The German Weather Service (DWD) warns of stormy or hurricane-force gusts in some mountain areas.

Weather in Germany: warning level two - DWD warns of gusts of wind in the low mountain range

Also on Monday (January 2), the DWD weather experts measured maximum temperatures between 14 degrees in the southeast and 18 degrees on the Upper Rhine and in Brandenburg.

For the low mountain ranges, there is still a weather warning for wind or storms on the first working day of the year.

In the low mountain ranges, the DWD warns of stormy gusts of up to 70 km/h.

Hurricane gusts of around 110 km/h can even occur on the Brocken in the Harz Mountains.

A level two storm warning was issued for the low mountain range.

However, the gusts should subside by the evening, only in the north on the North Sea and Baltic Sea can there still be some stormy gusts of wind.

There are currently no wind warnings for Tuesday (3 January).

Rain showers are expected from the middle to the Alps on Tuesday night, it will cool down to one degree.

In the coming days there will be a slight drop in temperature, but the weather will not be wintry: the daily highs will reach between 6 degrees on the Baltic Sea and 12 degrees on the Upper Rhine.

A new cold front is expected for Bavaria, with temperatures climbing back into the single digits.

It will remain largely dry, and sunny sections are also possible, according to the meteorologists.

Only in the middle of Germany and in the north-west can occasional showers occur in the evening.

On Wednesday, a low with continued mild temperatures will bring rain, and the wind will also pick up.

Strong to stormy gusts must then be expected at low altitudes.

The temperatures will remain warm like spring until Thursday: the daily highs will reach 8 to 13 degrees.

For Thursday, the meteorologists expect changeable weather with rain showers and short breaks.
