A seriously injured 23-year-old was found at Gunzenhausen station.

Shortly thereafter, railway employees discovered a dead young man.

Now there are new details.

January 2 update:

A 23-year-old man was found injured on New Year's Eve morning, another (23) man was found dead.

In a press release, the special “track” commission that was set up provides information on the current status of the investigation.

Accordingly, a physical altercation occurred around 6 a.m. in the Hafnermarkt area.

In the course of the argument, a 23-year-old man was severely injured in the upper body with a knife by an initially unknown person.

The man was injured, but his life is not in danger.

The lifeless man was found around 8:30 a.m. near the train station.

He had injuries that indicated physical violence by unknown persons.

Dead and injured in Gunzenhausen: men knew each other

Extensive measures to secure evidence were carried out and a large number of witnesses were questioned.

"According to the current status of the investigation, it could be verified that the 23-year-old injured man and the man who was later found lifeless knew each other," the press release says.

It can also be assumed that both people were involved in the physical altercation around 6 a.m. at Hafnermarkt.

"In this context, it is very likely that the person who was later killed inflicted the knife wound on the 23-year-old's upper body and then fled the scene," the officials continued.

So far, it has not been possible to clarify where the person who later died was after the argument at Hafnermarkt.

The events that led to the death of the young man are also the subject of the investigation.

Numerous people are being questioned, said police spokesman Michael Petzold on Sunday.

The autopsy of the body is scheduled for Monday.

Railway employees discovered the dead man on Saturday morning next to a track at the train station in Gunzenhausen (see initial report). According to the investigators, the injuries suggest that the 23-year-old was killed.

Two and a half hours earlier that day there had already been an argument in the city center in which a stranger had stabbed a 23-year-old man in the upper body with a knife.

The injured man was taken to a hospital where the police were able to question him.

There is currently no evidence that the two acts are related, said Petzold.

Murder in Gunzenhausen: Young man found dead at the train station

The 23-year-old was taken to a hospital, he is currently "not in an acute life-threatening condition," it said.

In the course of the investigation, Deutsche Bahn employees found a lifeless man next to a track near the station around 8:30 a.m.

The notified emergency doctor could only determine his death. 

"The deceased has injuries that indicate physical violence by unknown persons.

The dead man is also a 23-year-old man from Gunzenhausen," the police said.

Police are investigating a homicide in Gunzenhausen

The Ansbach homicide commission has started investigations to clarify what happened.

A connection between the above-mentioned incidents is currently being examined.

The homicide commission urgently asks for witnesses:

  • Who saw a physical altercation around 6 a.m. at Hafnermarkt?

  • Who saw a fight in the Gunzenhausen train station area in the early hours of the morning?

  • Who saw the 23-year-old who was killed between 4 a.m. and 8.30 a.m. in Gunzenhausen?
