A bus carrying dozens of teachers overturned this Monday in Guantánamo, Cuba's easternmost province, leaving at least four people dead and some 28 injured, according to local media reports.
In the vehicle, which was traveling from Guantánamo to Havana as part of a larger caravan of teachers, 32 people were traveling, including teachers and family members, detailed the provincial newspaper Venceremos, an official media outlet.
Four of the injured underwent emergency surgical procedures, while two minors were treated for minor injuries at a local hospital.
The newspaper Venceremos identified the deceased as Marvis Cotiet Heredia, Andrés Arnoldo López Fernández, Marilin Speck Wilson and Lineyis Luzón Chivas, all residents of Guantánamo.
Their ages were not immediately released.

Authorities said they are investigating the cause of the accident, but witnesses said no other vehicles were involved, according to Venceremos.
Fatal traffic accidents are common in Cuba
, where many highways suffer from underinvestment and most public transportation cars date from the Soviet era.
In the case of the vehicle that overturned this Monday, images of the scene show that it was a bus from the Transtur company, used mainly in Cuba for the transportation of tourists.

This Monday is the second massive traffic accident registered in the first two days of 2023. According to local media, another accident left 12 injured on Sunday on a highway between Havana and the neighboring province of Pinar del Río.
A recent report from the National Highway Commission (CNA) of Cuba stated that
between January and October 2022, 566 people died and 6,175 were injured on the island due to
8,187 traffic accidents.
In 2021, 8,354 road accidents were registered, which represented an increase of 8.32% (632) compared to 2020 and left 589 deaths, while in 2020, the 7,712 accidents reported on Cuban roads left 475 deaths, reported the EFE news agency.
