The data shows that during 2022, three IDF soldiers were killed in operational activity - the late Sgt. Noa Lazar, Major Bar Falah and Sgt. Ido Baruch, may their memory be blessed.

Three more soldiers were killed in what are known as "operational accidents", and this refers to the unfortunate accident in the Aguz unit during which a MM accidentally fired at two platoon commanders together - Major Itamar Elharar and Major Ofek Aharon, and the death of Sergeant Natan Fitousi who was also killed Mash was a member of the unit that mistakenly identified him as a terrorist.

Also, exactly one year ago today, the "Bat" helicopter crashed near the shores of Haifa, in a heavy disaster that caused the death of two Air Force pilots, the late Lt. Col. Erez Shayini and the late Major Chen Fogel.

Two more soldiers died during the past year by drowning - one in the resort village of Ashkelon and the other in civilian circumstances.

"This year was complex in terms of casualties. Deaths in operational activity, and serious accidents," admitted the Chief of Staff of the Army's Personnel Division, Brigadier General Yoram Knafo.

All cases will be investigated and lessons learned in all cases.

Due to the unusual events, we took the "Sedri Berashit" program, which emphasizes strengthening the norms and military culture in terms of quality, safety and discipline."

During 2022, no fewer than 14 suicide cases were recorded, compared to 11 in 2021 and 9 soldiers who ended their lives in 2020. Most of the suicides in the IDF are soldiers on active duty, most of them men, two of them are lone soldiers. Two of the suicides met before committing suicide Civilian police officers during a vacation at their home. 9 of the 14 suicides in the IDF in the past year had some interaction with security guards.

"This is a very sensitive issue, which also exists in other armies in the world," said Brigadier General Kanafo. "We in the IDF deal with this a lot. We are in the process of eradicating the phenomenon of suicide in the IDF.

Among other things, based on our understanding that the lone soldier population is a sensitive population, we established the Lonesome Center."

He also stated: "We are reducing access to weapons in cases where there is no need to have them. We have increased the security guards and their availability.

Today there is a military officer for each brigade, and we will continue to increase the number of military personnel in the IDF. The youth who have been enlisting in the last year or two demand this with greater availability."

In 2022, there was also a dramatic increase in the number of seriously wounded in the IDF - but the ACA attributes this to the change in the definition of seriously wounded, since the Medical Corps determined that every soldier who comes to intensive care is defined as being in serious condition.
