In Schaftlach there is no village inn. Changing this is high on the list of priorities for the municipality of Waakirchen for 2023. In Schaftlach there is no village inn.

Changing this is high on the list of priorities for the municipality of Waakirchen for 2023.

The property and the will to build a new building are there, now the search for a landlord begins.

And Mayor Norbert Kerkel and his team also have a lot to do in other ways.

Waakirchen

– The municipality of Waakirchen has three major projects in the pipeline for the new year: Firstly, there is the inn for Schaftlach, then a senior housing project is to be built on Westerpoltweg, and the town hall is also about to relocate.

The course should be set for all three projects by the end of 2023.

"We won't get bored," says Mayor Norbert Kerkel (FWG).

In order to manage the workload, the municipal council decided to professionalize the municipal company (KU) Wohnbaugesellschaft Waakirchen at the turn of the year.

On January 9, Luitpold Grabmeyer moves into his office in the district savings bank building, the future town hall, as full-time KU managing director.

"Then we have the first appointment right away," reports Kerkel.

It is the starting signal for a year of new building plans.

inn

Since the pizzeria on Michael-Schreiber-Weg moved out, there hasn't been a restaurant in Schaftlach anymore.

Already in 2021, the municipality bought the pizzeria building together with the apartment buildings near the train station.

In 2022, planning made little progress, but an idea became a resolution.

"We imagine a Bavarian economy there," says Kerkel.

An inn where people celebrate weddings and birthdays and come together after funerals.

"We don't have that," says Kerkel.

The next step is to look for a suitable host.

The community wants to work with them to develop the plan together.

The centrally located inn is intended to give village life a home.

"Clubs that don't have a clubhouse can meet there, maybe there'll be a regulars' table again," says Kerkel.

His goal by the end of 2023: An approved plan for the inn - and an innkeeper who wants to feel at home there.

Apartments are also to be built on the property.

It is clear that the old pizzeria building must be demolished.

According to Kerkel, it has not yet been decided whether the apartment buildings will also be newly built or renovated.

There are currently tenants living there.

city hall

The municipality of Waakirchen has owned the Kreissparkassen building since June 2022.

The house is now too big for the bank, so it is now the new administrative headquarters.

The municipality urgently needs it, the old town hall is dilapidated.

The conversion should not be too complex, but intensive consideration of the room concept is necessary.

"We also have to think about future needs," says Kerkel.

The extension of a barrier-free conference room is set.

He doesn't expect to move until the end of 2024 or early 2025, explains Kerkel.

senior housing project

With the acquisition of a piece of land on Westerpoltweg in Schaftlach, the municipality laid the foundation for realizing a housing project for senior citizens.

The needs assessment is just the beginning.

"We don't know whether we only need age-appropriate housing or also day care and short-term care," explains Kerkel.

To find out, Waakirchen, together with Gmund and Warngau, commissioned an analysis from a specialist agency.

It should be available in the spring.

But each municipality wants to find solutions for itself, says Kerkel.

After all, it is precisely the physical proximity that is important.

If the new apartment is close to the old domicile, the decision to move is much easier.

"You stay in the familiar environment," says Kerkel.

Waakirchen is planning a public workshop on the subject in 2023.

Traffic

Waakirchen also wants to create a new cycle path in 2023.

The aim this time is to connect the Am Krai sports facility.

It is particularly important for young athletes, who can then cycle safely to training.

"Now the parents always have to drive the children," says Kerkel.

The only thing missing at the moment is a plot of land to realize the cycle path, which closes a gap.

This route also reduces the burden of traffic, albeit not to a large extent, says Kerkel.

“We can only take small steps at a time.

It is not up to us as a municipality to turn the big wheel.” A further step will be the citizens' bus.

The municipality wants to put it on the street in the spring.
