At 110 km/h, a Tesla driver fell asleep at the wheel of his vehicle.

The autopilot drove after a police car of all things.

Bamberg – The electric cars from the American automobile manufacturer Tesla regularly provide a topic for discussion.

Tesla boss Elon Musk has recently been criticized for his Twitter takeover.

Tesla driver fell asleep at the wheel – autopilot chases police car

A Tesla driver had double bad luck on Wednesday afternoon on the A70 between Bamberg and Bayreuth.

The 45-year-old fell asleep at the wheel while the vehicle was moving on the autopilot at a constant 110 kilometers per hour.

According to the police, the car kept the same distance from the patrol car in front over a longer distance.

When the police patrol wanted to conduct a traffic stop, they found the man leaning in the seat with his eyes closed and his hands not touching the steering wheel.

The officials initially tried in vain to wake the driver up with repeated honking and light signals.

Under the influence of drugs: Tesla driver has to give up his driver's license

The 45-year-old woke up after around 15 minutes and followed the police instructions.

During the control, the man showed drug-typical abnormalities.

In the footwell of the car, the officers also found a so-called steering wheel weight.

This device is attached to the steering wheel to trick the vehicle's safety system by pretending that your hand is on the wheel.

A preliminary investigation into endangering road traffic has been initiated against the Tesla driver.

His driver's license was temporarily withheld.

Elon Musk's Tesla plant in Grünheide only opened in March.

But the employees are already running away from the tech billionaire.

It's chaos.
