The security establishment was put on alert this morning (Tuesday), following the ascent of National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gabir to the Temple Mount, and the fear of rocket launches from the Gaza Strip towards Israel.

Security officials clarified that "Hamas and Islamic Jihad do not set conditions for Israel", and added: "The move did not change the status quo in the compound".

On behalf of Hamas, it was stated that "Bin Gabir's visit is the continuation of the aggression of the occupation against the holy places of Islam and its war against Jerusalem."

The Palestinian Foreign Ministry attacked: "Ben Gabir's visit to the Temple Mount is an unprecedented provocation. Netanyahu is responsible for the consequences for the conflict and the region."

This morning, Ben Gabir went up to the Temple Mount accompanied by security guards, after a conversation Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu had with him yesterday, in which he did not try to prevent him from going up to the site.

The minister went up to the Temple Mount in coordination with the Shin Bet, Commissioner Kobi Shabtai and Jerusalem District Commander Doron Turgeman, and the visit ended without any unusual incidents.

"Our government will not give in to the threats of Hamas. The Temple Mount is the most important place for the people of Israel, and we maintain the freedom of movement for Muslims and Christians, but Jews will also go up to the mountain and those who threaten should be dealt with with an iron fist," said Ben Gvir.

On behalf of the minister's office, it was reported that in assessing the situation, the security officials believed that "folding down in the face of the threats would be a reward for terrorism and legitimizing actions against Israel."

Yesterday, the minister announced that he intends to go up to the Temple Mount, for the first time since he was sworn into office.

In the coalition agreement, Ben Gvir pledged to maintain the status quo in the holy places, including the Temple Mount, despite his statements before the elections.

In the agreement signed by Ben Gabir, it is written that "the status quo in matters of religion and state will be maintained as has been customary for decades in Israel, including in relation to the holy places."

The last few times the Minister of National Security went up to the Temple Mount, the events passed relatively quietly.

The last time Ben Gvir went up to the Temple Mount was about three months ago, near Rosh Hashanah.

Hamas also warned against Ben Gabir's ascent to the Temple Mount, claiming that this is a step that will "lead to the explosion of the situation."

The terrorist organization delivered strong messages to Egypt and the United Nations against Ben Gabir's intentions and warned that he "will not stand by", according to a report on the al-Mayadeen channel in which Palestinian sources were quoted.
