New construction in the queue: Irschenberg's sewage treatment plant has been planned for years, but the implementation has been postponed.

The costs and the amount of the special contributions that the citizens should make are also open.

It is an ongoing topic that has never really been tangible: the sewage treatment plant has been on the investment list of the municipality of Irschenberg since 2016.

And over the years, the cost increases.

Irschenberg

– As is well known, the fun stops when it comes to money.

This also applies to local politics.

The Irschenberg citizens' initiative recently provoked the displeasure of Mayor Klaus Meixner (CSU) with the catchphrase "Explosion in costs of the sewage treatment plant" in its invitation to the information evening on January 10 (7 p.m. in the Kramerwirt) (we reported).

There can be no question of an explosion in costs, emphasized Meixner, because there are no current figures - "it's all speculation".

Because the plant, which was built in 1981, can no longer be technically expanded and therefore no longer received a new permit in 2020, Irschenberg needs a new solution.

The trades should actually be awarded in winter 2021/22, construction would have started in spring 2022 and commissioning in spring 2023, but nothing was kept.

Meixner explains with Corona that nothing has progressed with the project for so long.

Because of the pandemic, there were repeated failures in the planning office, and meetings were not possible.

The mayor adds that there is also a shortage of skilled workers, which can also be felt among the planners.

Mayor: Numbers only after the tender

But now one is so far that one can start looking for specialist planners.

The preliminary draft is in place, but the resulting costs have not yet been updated.

“When we advertise, we get fixed numbers.

Everything else is just speculation now.”

One can also speculate about the financing of the new sewage treatment plant and how much the connected citizens have to pay as part of an extra contribution.

As reported, part of the costs are to be passed on once to the citizens.

With costs of at least 6.5 million euros - not taking into account the sometimes drastic price increases in the construction industry in recent months - a sensitive one-off payment should come to Irschenberger.

Especially since no decision has yet been made as to how the large catering establishments on the motorway will be assessed in the calculation.

The remainder of the cost will likely come from increased sewage charges.

In the absence of final figures, the municipal council has not yet drawn up a line on this.

Nothing was changed in the planned dimension.

As reported, Irschenberg's treatment plant is designed for 5,000 population equivalents - a unit of measurement for the capacity of the plant.

However, only around 3,200 are actually used. Nevertheless, after the conversion, it should be prepared for 7,000 population equivalents, because the loads could increase in the future, especially due to commercial operations.

Splitting the costs is difficult because the municipality consists of over 100 districts and hamlets.

This means that by far not all citizens are connected to the municipal sewage system.

A three-chamber system is often sufficient for on-site clarification.

This reduces the number of connected households, which increases the fee for the individual connections.

In addition to Irschenberg and the forest settlement, Buchbichl, Salzhub, Wendling and Wilparting are also connected to the sewage treatment plant.

Connection to Bruckmühl not an option

A connection to the sewage treatment plant in Brückmühl is still not an option for Meixner.

It was checked years ago.

The result: "Back then, the connection cost ten million euros and was therefore significantly more expensive than a new building," reports Meixner.

The municipality would have had to build a completely new line to the sewage treatment plant.

In addition, Bruckmühl's capacity for Irschenberg should be too busy, Meixner had already explained in 2020.

2023 is again a planning year - like 2022. According to Meixner, the tender should take place at the end of the year.

The offers should then be available in spring 2024, so that construction should then begin.
