Panama will not apply covid-19 restrictions to passengers from China
By Elizabeth Gonzalez
The Government of Panama will not apply, for the moment, restrictions on passengers from China, informed the country's Minister of Health, Luis Francisco Sucre, who revealed that this issue had been the reason for meetings.
"One of the variants that is affecting China is the BQ1, which we already have here in the sixth wave, so there is no reason for us to have to block or reduce the entry of these passengers," Sucre said when explaining why Panama does not adopt the restrictions that other countries currently apply regarding the outbreak of infections in China.
The minister asserted that in Panama "the sixth wave is under control", although he clarified that due to the end of the year holidays they foresee an increase in cases of covid-19.
The official stated that the health team is monitoring.
The Panamanian Ministry of Health reported in a statement that it expects the first batch of the bivalent vaccine against the original variant of covid-19 and the new strains to arrive in the first three months of the year.
However, according to Minister Sucre, they manage with the company Pfizer the arrival of the first doses for this same month of January.
