Old driver's licenses must be exchanged for bank card copies.
Thousands of Munich residents are affected by the next deadline.
Munich – Little by little they are to disappear, the old rags: By January 19, 2033, all old driving licenses must be exchanged for forgery-proof bank card copies.
Those born between 1959 and 1964 have until January 19th.
Tens of thousands of Munich residents are likely to be affected.
After the deadline, the old licenses – gray or pink model or former GDR driver’s licenses – are no longer valid.
Cost for the change: 25.30 euros.
The next deadline is January 19, 2024, by which time everyone born between 1965 and 1970 must have gotten a new rag.
Driver's license: Munich is annoyed that the term is too short
Ernst Wurzenberger has already gone to the driver's license office.
"Everything went smoothly, I didn't have to wait long." He still had a gray rag - which he will also keep.
"It was my very first driver's license, I've had it for so long.
Then the heart is somehow attached to it, ”says the Munich player.
From 2033 only credit card format
According to an EU directive that was passed in 2006, all old driving licenses should be exchanged for new ones in credit card format by 2033.
The background of the exchange campaign: All driving licenses should be forgery-proof and uniform throughout the EU.
In addition, all driver's licenses should be recorded in a database to avoid misuse, according to the automobile club ADAC.
The limitation to 15 years is intended to ensure that the owners always have a current passport photo in their document and are therefore easier to identify.
All driving licenses issued before January 19, 2013 will be replaced.
These will then be replaced by an EU card limited to 15 years.
What annoys Wurzenberger: "Only valid for 15 years, then you have to go back to the driver's license office - and pay almost 30 euros for it!" The Munich resident has no understanding of the costs.
"At least I don't have to pay for a new card from my bank or my health insurance myself."

Old driver's licenses become invalid: Warning money is imminent
An application form is required for the change, which must be completed and submitted to the driver's license office on Garmischer Straße or submitted online.
With a processing number you can then see whether the new certificate is ready.
This can be picked up at the driver's license office with an appointment or you can have it sent to your home.
By the way: If the deadline expires, the old certificate becomes invalid.
This does not mean that you lose your license to drive a car.
However, it is mandatory to have a valid driver's license.
This means that, according to the ADAC, a warning fee of ten euros can be due in the event of an inspection.
