The last injection: Corona vaccination center in Wolfratshausen closed - that's how the last day went

The vaccination center of the district of Bad Tölz Wolfratshausen is now closed.

We visited the team - and talked about the fight against Corona. 

Wolfratshausen – For the last time, Dr.

Hartmut Kirchhübel, orthopedist from Wolfratshausen, injected a syringe with the Biontech active ingredient against Covid 19 at 4 p.m. last Friday and administered it to a patient.

Half an hour before the vaccination center on Gebhardtstrasse was finally closed, Hannes Loibl had himself immunized again.

The Munich resident, a retired anesthetist and also an employee of the center, decided to have a fifth vaccination because he belongs to a risk group.

The 74-year-old said he wanted to take the last opportunity to be pricked by one of the nice colleagues who had grown dear to him over the past two years.

As reported, the two centers in the district - next to the Tölzer Asklepios Clinic and at the Wolfratshausen district clinic - are history.

The Aich ambulance had operated it on behalf of the district since February 2021.

Around 145,500 injections were used during this time.

In the past few months, however, there have hardly been any people willing to be vaccinated, so that – as is the case everywhere in Bavaria – the decision was made to give up.

In the future, general practitioners will carry out the corona vaccination.

On Friday, the employees in Wolfratshausen looked back on two years that were sometimes strenuous but also fulfilling.

"I will miss the team here," said Uschi Friedl, a medical assistant from Münsing.

She will return to her job as an MFA with a family doctor.

Friedl remembers the stress at the beginning, when the doctors tried not to waste a drop of the vaccine, which was so valuable at the time.

But she also remembers the gratitude of the first patients, mostly seniors with a prioritization, who would have cried with gratitude because they would finally have had the prospect of a “normal life” with visits from children and grandchildren.

Once she saw a group of young people open a champagne bottle in front of the door: "They toasted their second vaccination, their freedom".

It was only later that some patients said, annoyed, that they had little choice but to be vaccinated because they were not allowed to do anything else.

“We all advised, without pressure.

Some actually went back without being vaccinated,” says Friedl.

The Munich doctor Stephan Königsperger adds that even on days when there was a long queue in front of the door - sometimes 800 to 900 people came per opening day - he took the time to point out all the advantages and disadvantages in a conversation.

Königsperger "often received the feedback: Nice that this is possible here."

After the first rush in spring 2021, there was again great demand for the "booster", the third vaccination, in October, November and December 2021.

"From then on it got quieter with around 20 people a day," says Kirchhübel.

He rarely did any vaccinations.

Anesthetist Hannes Loibl reports that he was "a bit picky" about the fifth vaccination as to whether it was really necessary.

He always followed the recommendations of the Standing Vaccination Committee (Stiko).

Pandemic: Many people worked at the vaccination center

The employees of the security service, registration and the call center - at peak times there were ten to twelve men and women sitting there alone - toasted the past time together with champagne on Friday.

They all stressed that they would do the job again at any time if asked.

Of course, none of them wants another pandemic.
