In support of farmers and to facilitate access to their lands and the transportation of their agricultural crops, the local council in the city of Qara, in the countryside of Damascus, in cooperation with the civil society, has built four agricultural roads with a length of 2 km and a width of 5 meters per road in the areas of fruitful afforestation and the green belt.
The head of the council, Dr. Ahmed Sarim, explained in a statement to SANA reporter that the agricultural roads that were built are distributed in (Ain Atta Farm) and (Ain Al-Bayda), stressing that the process of paving and asphalting these roads will take place as soon as the weather conditions improve, and work will also be done to serve the agricultural lands. which are difficult to reach by opening new roads.
According to Dr. Sarim, the green belt and the fruitful afforestation that extends over an area of more than 10,000 dunums in the outskirts of Qara needs to open more agricultural roads that serve farmers and help them reach their lands, noting that during the past year, about 6 kilometers of agricultural roads were built.
It is noteworthy that 90 percent of the green belt in the continent is planted with almond trees, 5 percent with cherry trees, and the remaining part with pistachio, vine and apricot trees, while the fruitful afforestation project extends over an area of 6 thousand hectares, most of which are planted with cherry trees.
