If the exceptionally mild temperatures delight some of the holidaymakers and walkers on Sundays, they can only surprise by their amplitude and their duration.
If a cold spell had hit the territory before Christmas, the frosts seem a distant memory.
Many records broken
On the night of December 30 to 31, the average temperature exceeded 11°C, making this Saint-Roger night the mildest ever observed since 1947. For the last day of 2022, the mercury rose to 15°C in Paris, 19°C in Ajaccio, 21°C in Tarbes, 16°C in Lille and even 17°C in Aurillac.
Numerous records have thus been beaten in several cities for New Year's Eve: such as in Rennes, where it was 14.1°C, thus exceeding the 13.9°C of 1961, or in Besançon, which, with its 12 6°C, broke its 1915 record. The same in Grenoble and Mende, which came close to 10°C.
The fauna and flora were disturbed by this exceptional mildness.
Birds chirping on the first of the year, lilacs budding, fir trees drying out, a snow-cleared mountain... Nature is the first to suffer from these unusually mild temperatures, unlike tourists and inhabitants of coastline, who were able to take the opportunity to swim in water at over 16°C in Nice.
A sweetness that stretches until mid-January
Will this mild episode one day end and give way to frosts and snowfall?
