Gabriele Strobl witnessed the start of her heart project.
Last June, the hospice on Untere Bahnhofstraße opened its doors.
Germering - In September she visited the bright, light-flooded rooms - and could be satisfied.
Now the woman who made the construction of the facility possible has died at an old age.
"Mr. Braun, why don't we have a hospice in Germering?" This sentence, with which Gabriele Strobl once got the ball rolling, has been quoted many times in speeches.
Her husband Max had died shortly before in a Munich hospice.
When asked why there was no such place of security for the dying in Germering, former Mayor Peter Braun initially had no answer.
The property
Finding a location and financing would certainly have been difficult if the former teacher had not founded the Max and Gabriele Strobl Foundation – with the declared goal of building and running a hospice.
The founder made the property available for this purpose. In addition to the stationary hospice, a women's shelter, the office of the Germering Social Foundation and consultation rooms of the Germering Hospice Association are also housed here.
The memory of the founder and her husband lives on in the name of the building – Max-und-Gabriele-Strobl-Haus.

Married in 1955
The two had married in 1955.
The then 30-year-old Gabriele Strobl had just been appointed as a teacher.
She had already worked at several schools in Munich and throughout Bavaria and had also been employed as a representative of the headmaster.
Still, the mother of a daughter tended to hide her light under a bushel.
She only passed her state exam because she prayed to Father Rupert Mayer for help – she remained convinced of that throughout her life.
With a great sense of aesthetics and a great interest in art and ethnology, the Germeringer native was a highly cultivated, open and impartial person.
A well-groomed, ladylike appearance was important to her well into old age.
At the same time, friends describe her as a competent, efficient and forward-thinking person - right down to the selection of the musicians for her own Requiem.
Gabriele Strobl would certainly have been pleased that it turned out exactly as desired.
