Activists from the “Dernière Rénovation” collective covered the door of the Matignon hotel in Paris with orange paint on Wednesday January 4 around 12:30 p.m.
Videos posted online show the door to the prime minister's residence defaced by long streaks of paint on its facade.
Present on the spot, the police quickly arrested two activists involved in this action.
Members of Last Renovation are known for their actions of civil disobedience.
On site, an activist indicated that the color of this painting referred to the A22 network, a “
collective of projects engaged in a frantic race to save humanity
”.
Through this action, Last Renovation activists intend to challenge the French government about the damage to the environment caused by climate change.
They ask the government of Elisabeth Borne to "
respect the Paris climate agreements
", in particular that on "
the thermal renovation of buildings
", or the overall renovation of the French building stock "
by 2040
".
Last Renovation had already distinguished itself in 2022 with actions carried out during a tennis match at Roland-Garros and a stage of the Tour de France.
On June 3, a young woman tied her neck to the net at Cours Philippe Chatrier, interrupting a match for about fifteen minutes.
On July 22, several activists disrupted the 19th stage of the Grande Boucle by sitting in the middle of the road, chained to each other by their ankles.
