2023-01-04T12:23:18.242Z

The year 2022 brought Israelis to take vacations in the country on an unprecedented scale • As a result, revenues from domestic tourism jumped to more than NIS 17 billion for the state coffers • In terms of foreign tourism - Israel is still far from recreating the record recorded in 2019

Willing to pay any price:

hotel prices in Israel are very high compared to many destinations around the world, many Israelis complain about the high prices, but the data published today presents an interesting picture.

The year 2022 was a record year in tourism - over 20 million overnight stays by Israelis were registered in hotels and guesthouses throughout the country.

The 20 million overnight stays brought more than NIS 17 billion into the state coffers.

For the purpose of comparison, in 2019, which was the record year so far, 18.4 million overnight stays by Israelis were recorded in Israel, approximately 1.6 million overnight stays less than the record broken this year.

Revenues in 2019 were 12.7 billion shekels, 4.3 billion less than the record broken this year.

How many foreign tourists entered Israel?

In 2022, 2.675 million tourists entered Israel, a figure that does not come close to the number of tourists we experienced here in 2019 (a decrease of about 41%).

It is important to remember that the year began with the Corona restrictions and the recovery of the tourism industry was slow, which in a certain way explains the significant decrease in the number of tourists who entered Israel this year.

The scope of income in 2022 from incoming tourism is NIS 13.5 billion, not including tourist expenses on flights on Israeli airlines.

In 2019, the number was NIS 23 billion, about NIS 10 billion more than last year.

Minister of Tourism Haim Katz commented on the data and expressed hope that this year will be better: "2022 was a year of recovery from the Corona crisis. The trend is positive and breaking the record of inbound tourism from 2019 is a realistic goal that can be seen on the horizon. Domestic tourism has proven itself to be just as vital to the economy as inbound tourism. The goal It's up to us to try to lower barriers and get projects started more quickly to add sleeping rooms and develop infrastructure."
