Walter Cunningham, astronaut who was part of the first manned flight of the NASA Apollo program, died this Tuesday at the age of 90.
The Iowa-born space pioneer joined NASA in 1963. He was a member of the crew of Apollo 7, launched in 1968, and spent 11 days in space as part of preparations to send astronauts to the Moon, which it would be achieved the following year with Apollo 11.
