Border chaos amid Title 42 uncertainty 3:06
(CNN) --
US President Joe Biden said he "intends" to visit the Mexican border when he travels next week to the North American Leaders Summit in Mexico City.
“That is my intention, we are working out the details now,” Biden told reporters before boarding Air Force One.
CNN reported moments earlier Wednesday that White House officials were considering adding a visit to the border as part of the president's trip.
This would be Biden's first visit to the border since taking office and would come as officials continue to grapple with an immigration crisis and an immigration system that government officials call "broken."
White House officials have resisted calls by Republicans for Biden to visit the border for two years, viewing the idea as political theater.
But in the weeks since the midterm elections, officials have explored potential avenues for immigration legislation in a divided Congress.
