A married couple from Vaterstetten has become the victim of a brazen scam.
The Erding criminal police are now investigating.
Vaterstetten
- A 69-year-old woman in Vaterstetten received a supposedly frightening message on Tuesday, January 3, by phone: According to the police report, a previously unknown person pretended to be the elderly woman's daughter on the phone and credibly conveyed to the 69-year-old that there had been a serious traffic accident with fatal consequences to have caused an exit.
In order to avoid a provisional prison sentence, the scammer demanded money from the elderly woman for bail.
Fraudsters demand 185,000 euros
To substantiate the story, the native of Vaterstetten received a second call from the scammers shortly thereafter.
This time, the unknown perpetrator identified herself as an alleged employee of the executive judge.
According to officials from the Ebersberg Police Inspectorate, the con artist set the amount of the bail at around 185,000 euros.
Hand over gold and cash in Munich
Believing that she was helping her own daughter, the elderly woman drove with her husband to the agreed meeting point in Munich a little later.
According to the police report, the 69-year-old from Vaterstetten handed over gold and cash in the low six-digit range there.
But the scammers called again: In another call, the perpetrators demanded more money.
That was finally too much for the elderly woman.
She hung up.
As the officials at the Ebersberg Police Inspectorate reported, the couple recognized the fraud shortly thereafter and filed a criminal complaint.
Healthy distrust helps against scams
Now the Erding Criminal Police Department has taken over the case and warns against the now well-known scam: "Healthy distrust is not impolite!"
If a relative requests immediate financial help, those affected should sit up and contact the relatives in question.
If the caller tries to put pressure on you, "just hang up," advises the Erding Criminal Inspectorate.

The most important thing, however, is never to give money or jewelry to strangers.
Because the real police or public prosecutor's office never demand assets from private individuals in order to be able to carry out investigations.
