In Krün there will also be some movement in 2023 - at least in terms of location design.

The list of projects for the year after the G7 summit is long.

Krün

– Actually, Thomas Schwarzenberger (CSU) and his administration deserve to catch their breath, take a breath and gather strength.

Within seven years, they held two G7 summits.

"But that's not our style," says Krün's mayor.

They handled the second edition of the mammoth event in the town hall more or less on the side.

Despite the tremendous work, the Krün municipal administration was able to siphon off millions – which will benefit you in 2023.

One of the biggest construction sites this year is village renewal.

The church square is to be renovated.

Actually, the village square would have had priority.

But Krün couldn't afford both, which is why it was called: either the village square or the church square.

Now came the second G7 summit.

Suddenly the financial situation looked different and the priorities of the municipal council changed too.

Now the area around the Sebastianskirche will be tackled first.

Instead of a subsidy of only 37 percent, there is now a whopping 80 percent subsidy, which makes a big difference with the calculated construction costs of up to 1.2 million euros.

Cosmetic measures are at the forefront of the renovation.

Traffic should continue to run, church events should be possible.

The plans are in place, but the final touches are still needed for the building permit: Because the renovation work is to be carried out at the same time as empty pipes for a planned fiber optic network are to be laid in the ground in order to be prepared for the broadband expansion.

The toddler boom is unbroken

The renewal of the village square, on the other hand, is a little more complicated.

More residents are affected, and the municipal council must also ask itself what it wants to achieve there at all - as is well known, the so-called Mias'n house is in the hands of the municipality.

A concept is currently being developed by the village renewal working group.

When it comes to renovating the kindergarten, there are only small things left to do in 2023.

"The toddler boom is unbroken," says Schwarzenberger.

The enlargement of the kindergarten is therefore only one step of many - after all, the children are getting older and have to go to primary school.

There are currently 100 students in Krün and Wallgau - but there will be 150 from September 2026/2027.

That is why the community urgently needs to expand there and set up an all-day school, which is currently only running provisionally: "There is still no reasonable room for lunch."

Flood protection will also take up a lot of work.

Because of the G7 summit, the plans for the Kranzbach were pushed back.

"We urgently need to make progress." In order to be prepared for a 100-year flood, the two culverts on Krottenkopfstrasse and Walchenseestrasse are being upgraded as the first of a total of three sections in town.

The aim is to obstruct the Kranzbach and build a retention basin.

Krün wants to invest in the social sector in 2023.

This is how domiciles are to be created for older people who are to be cared for by outpatient living.

"But we're still at the very beginning," explains Schwarzenberger.

Furthermore, he would like to realize building land for locals.

There are prospects of 4,500 square meters, even if the general conditions have changed here in the past four or five years: "There are high interest rates again and construction costs have exploded."
