Summary.
On December 13, 2022, the president of the French Rugby Federation, Bernard Laporte, was sentenced by the Paris Criminal Court to a 2-year suspended prison sentence and a fine of 75,000 euros for corruption and influence peddling.
He appealed this decision and stepped down from his duties.
Since the summer of 2017, the boss of French rugby has been implicated in several cases of illegal taking of interest.
Bernard Laporte would have used his position to reduce certain sanctions against the Montpellier club, led by one of his friends, businessman Mohed Altrad.
In connection with the latter, the leader of the FFR is also accused of having received 180,000 euros from the Altrad group in March 2017, under an image contract never executed.
Justice is also interested in his alleged role in the attribution to France, in 2017, of the organization of the Rugby World Cup in 2023.
For Code source, Clément Dossin and Romain Baheux, journalists in the Parisian sports department, return to this case with drawers which is shaking up French rugby.
