Infrastructure work on Israel's railways continues to be carried out on Saturdays, despite the coalition agreements of the new government.

The railway announced last night (Tuesday) a series of projects to complete the electrification of the Palestine Railway between Ashkelon and Rehovot, which will be carried out on weekends.

The electrification works include Saturday work that takes advantage of the shutdown of the lines on weekends, which allows equipment and workers to be brought in to install the electrification equipment around the tracks.

The works are mainly carried out by the employees of the Spanish SEMI company and its foreign employees, and external contractors of the railway, with non-Jewish workers, when Jews employed in the activity work in accordance with the approvals received by the railway from the labor branch of the Ministry of Economy.

The train is also expected to complete the electrification of the line traveling between the Ashkelon and Rehovot stations ( Fleslat Railway), and is being prepared for the operation of the Binyamina-Tel'a-Rehovot-Ashkelon line using new electric trains.

The works will include connecting rails to the railway electrical network and works to raise the height of the platform and reduce the boarding space for the train, in order to increase the convenience of using the Siemens electric trains that were ordered previously, even though they are not suitable for the height of the platforms in Israel.
