Diving tower in the outdoor pool is being renovated

The diving tower in the outdoor pool is showing its age and urgently needs to be renovated.
However, it costs around 275,000 euros.
Germering – Public utility boss Roland Schmid sees the diving board as an attractive fixed point in the outdoor pool.
However, it dates from the 1970s - the time when the outdoor pool was built.
Therefore, the need for rehabilitation is great and the expected expenses are high.
The works committee unanimously approved the 275,000 euros required for this, although the budget deliberations for 2023 have not yet taken place.
Until the start of the season
Gerhard Blahusch (Greens) in particular complained about this, although he fundamentally supported the renovation.
"Can that wait until housekeeping?" he asked.
The decision to do so would not be made until April, Mayor Andreas Haas (CSU) pointed out to a certain amount of time pressure.
"It will be too late for the diving platform."
Because the pool management has set itself the goal of having renovated the tower by the start of the outdoor pool season in mid-May 2023.
This requires a prompt tender and award of the work, to which the mayor is now authorized.

So far, the jumping facility, although no longer up to date, was protected and could therefore continue to be operated.
Because apart from a traffic light that regulates access to the tower, there had been no structural changes.
Most recently, however, safety officers and TÜV recommended updating the standards.
Among other things, transverse railings are no longer up-to-date and the incline of the ladders is a few degrees too steep.
"I don't want to ignore these hints," said Schmid.

Since the installation of new ladders also requires new attachments, the substance of the tower itself was also examined.
The condition of the building was generally described as good.
But the reinforcement, i.e. the reinforcement of concrete components to increase the load-bearing capacity, is beginning to decompose in some places.
In addition to new railings and ladders, a concrete renovation was recommended.
