The big anniversary year in Jesenwang has begun: the cannon shooters of the cultural and local history association opened the year of the 1250th anniversary of the community with a cannon shootout at the plague chapel.
Jesenwang - It was in the year 773 when Oasinwanc was first mentioned in a document - a name that later changed to Jesenwang.
The linguistic origin is immortalized today in the street name "Am Oasogrund" in the north of the town.
The firecrackers around their rifle champion Helmut Tengg-Schlemmer honored the community's birthday in front of more than 50 onlookers with a triple salute.
This was followed by a performance by the Goaßlschnalzer.
The community celebrates the anniversary with several events throughout the year.
Among other things, local home warden Markus Wild leads to archaeological sites in the local area in April and in May there is a lecture by cultural advisor Rainer Schmid on the history of Jesenwang as well as an art event.
The highlight, however, is the big festival weekend on July 1st and 2nd in the town centre.
Mayor Erwin Fraunhofer wished that the celebrations for the 1250th anniversary of Jesenwang would go well at the start of the firecracker shooting.
