Palestine's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Riyad Mansour, renewed the call on the international community and the Security Council to take international action to stop the Israeli occupation's terrorism against the Palestinian people, their land, and their sanctities.
WAFA Agency stated that Mansour made it clear in three identical letters to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the President of the Security Council and the President of the General Assembly that the new year began with the storming of settlers, led by the minister in the occupation government (Itamar bin Gfir), the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque under the protection of large numbers of occupation forces. In grave violation of international law and the existing legal and historical status of the mosque.
Mansour pointed out that the international community is obligated to reaffirm its rejection of the occupation's attempts to annex parts of the occupied Palestinian territory, including Jerusalem and its holy places, and to reaffirm, as stated in Resolution 2334, the cessation of settlement activity, and that the Security Council will not recognize any changes to the lines of the fourth of June 1967, stressing the need for the Security Council to assume its responsibilities, and to affirm the primacy of the United Nations Charter and the rule of law to avoid an explosion of situations and religious war, and to save the lives of millions of Palestinian men, women and children at risk due to the Israeli occupation.
Mansour called for an emergency meeting of the Security Council to take immediate measures to confront the severe dangers posed by the occupation's continuous attacks on the Palestinian people and their sanctities, foremost of which are the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Ibrahimi Mosque, and to take concrete measures by the Council, the General Assembly, and the International Criminal and Justice Courts to hold the occupation accountable for its crimes and stop them.
