Married people were right: women can identify singles by sniffing shirts - voila! Sheee

2023-01-04T08:46:58.258Z

A study reveals that single men tend to stink more than men in a relationship, and it turns out that women know how to diagnose according to the strength of the smell their level of availability, health, and ability to maintain a relationship

Previous studies indicate that the smell of the human body can signal biological conditions such as diseases, moods (fear, exhaustion) and other parameters as well.

Loneliness, for example, or despair.

The issue was investigated, believe it or not, by the same means used in "Hatunami" - sniffing shirts and ratings based on various parameters.

The study asked 82 heterosexual women aged 18 to 35 to rate the body odor and faces of six different men of the same age.

In accordance with the hypothesis, the smell of single men was stronger than that of men in a relationship, and the faces of single men were rated as more masculine, and from this it was concluded that women can recognize single males and that the strong smell is actually intended to help single men signal their availability, and for women to recognize the evolutionary resources that a male without offspring can provide her.

The researchers provided 91 men with a simple t-shirt that each participant wore for one day and engaged in moderate physical activity that day, to ensure that a significant amount of sweat was absorbed into the armpit of the shirt, so that the 82 women had something to sniff.

Men have always been and always will be attracted to young women, and why not actually?

Another study that investigated changes in hormone levels in men found differences in men in correlation to their relationship status.

The findings showed that heterosexual men with high levels of testosterone were less likely to marry or have long-term relationships, while lower levels of testosterone were associated with the ability to maintain a romantic relationship.

Furthermore, different hormones may affect the quality of a man's body odor and how attractive they are to women.

For example, a 2013 study found that women actually prefer the smell of men with high testosterone and that there is a biological correlation to their probability of conceiving, apparently because higher testosterone also indicates evolutionary power, and there are also many studies that have proven that women prefer the body odor of men with faces symmetries.

"Consistent with our hypothesis, the body odor of single men was rated as stronger than the odor of men in a relationship," write the authors of the study.

"We also found that the faces of single men were rated as more masculine than the faces of men in a relationship. From an evolutionary perspective, this may help women recognize the signs and avoid investing in males with reduced resources (if they already have offspring)."

However, although women tend to be attracted to high testosterone and what comes with it, this does not necessarily increase their chances of finding love, single men's scents were rated as stronger, but not sexier or more attractive than those of men in a relationship.

The women described the cohabiting men as more trustworthy and loyal than the single men, although single women failed to see these qualities in either group.

The authors of the study offer an alternative explanation for the increased level of smell in singles, which is that those who are not in a relationship can afford to be less hygienic.

"The evidence for this statement comes from research that states that the condition of single men is often worse, physically and mentally, than that of men in a relationship, and this is expressed in worse hygiene and therefore a strong odor," they write.

Be that as it may, even if body odor was originally intended to signal to potential partners about our status and availability, it turns out that the relationship between a person's odor and the relationship status in their life is much more complex.

Until we understand this mystery in depth, please - just shower once a day.
