The Fischbachau and Elbach fire brigades were alerted because of a "burning hunting lodge" - which then turned out to be a Daxen fire.

Fischbachau

– Yesterday, a caller alerted the fire brigade with an apparently clear message and triggered an operation: An “old hunting lodge” was on fire on the Breitenstein, quoted Marinus Gasteiger, commander of the Fischbachau fire brigade.

But when the volunteers arrived, it turned out: "It was a completely normal Daxen fire."

At around 12:20 p.m., 30 volunteers with two vehicles from the Fischbachau and Elbach fire brigades had already left at the foot of the Breitenstein – who were able to leave again after half an hour.

"The farmer guarded the Daxen fire, everything was under control," says Gasteiger, who saw the situation for himself during the operation.

The commander was annoyed by the “careless call”.

After all, his team went out about eight times in the past year alone for normal Daxen fires that did not require any action.

"This time, too, it was a so-called error on the part of the reporting party," explains Gasteiger.

The commander cannot explain why the caller assumed that an old hunting lodge was on fire.

"From my point of view, he could not have seen the hut at all." The caller reported the fire from Faistenau.

The hamlet lies to the west of Fischbachau, the Breitenstein a little further to the east.

Gasteiger says: "We also only recognized the hut when driving up - it is difficult to see in the forest."
