Passport and identity card: still months of waiting on the new government site

2023-01-04T17:23:17.740Z

WE TESTED - Much ado about nothing? The platform, set up at the end of November by the ANTS, is still far from solving the problem of delays in obtaining identity papers.

O disappointment!

Yet the promise seemed so beautiful.

At the end of November, the government launched the rendezvouspasseport.ants.gouv.fr platform.

Its objective: to facilitate making an appointment for a passport or identity card application, in a context marked by the explosion of waiting times to obtain a slot at the town hall.

At the end of the year, it was still necessary to wait fifty days, on average - far from the government objective of 30 days.

This site makes it possible, in comparison with the old one, to geolocate and find a niche within 20, 40 or 60 kilometers around you, all within a maximum of three months.

That's for the theory.

In fact, the site still does not meet expectations with waiting times still too long.

Proof of this is with a demonstration carried out in two cities: Paris and Orléans.

First pitfall: with regard to Paris, the new platform, developed by the National Agency for Secure Titles (ANTS), only lists five borough town halls in its search bar.

What about the other fifteen?

For Paris, not all arrondissement town halls are accessible from the platform (search carried out on January 4, 2022 at 4 p.m.).

But let's get to the point: does the site allow you to get an appointment faster?

If we compare the government platform with other existing appointment booking sites, nothing is less certain.

We perform this test on January 4, 2023, so our research deadline extends until April 4.

The ANTS site offers us, of course, two slots on February 1 at the town hall of Villepinte (18.6 kilometers from the capital).

But in comparison, the private platform Vitemonpasseport.fr lists about fifteen, with sometimes more distant slots but in town halls much closer to Paris, including Bagneux (8 kilometers from the center of Paris).

As of January 4, other options are visible on the Vitemonpasseport.fr site, including Bagneux, much closer to Paris.

Same disappointment if we focus on other cities, such as Orléans.

On the ANTS website, appointments are only available from March 21, in the town halls of La Chapelle-Saint-Mesmin (5.5 kilometers from Orléans) and Saint-Jean-de -la-Ruelle (5.2 kilometers from Orléans).

On Vitemonpasseport.fr, an appointment is available in Saint-Jean-de-la-Ruelle (3.6 kilometers) for February 16, more than a month earlier.

How to explain it?

For the time being, only 750 cities out of the 2,500 capable of producing identity cards or passports are registered on the new site.

To overcome this, the government announced in November a “new emergency plan”, endowed with an envelope of 20 million euros for 2023. The goal: to allow town halls to recruit more and (finally) reduce the time waiting for an appointment.

The advice is therefore more than ever essential: anticipate again and again your passport and CNI requests.

Good to know

It is possible to apply for a CNI or a passport in a town hall different from yours.

In addition to the two platforms mentioned, the town hall website also allows you to make an appointment.

The National Agency for Secured Documents recommends making an online pre-application on the passport.ants.gouv.fr website.
