The latest "crime scene" from Cologne: Two popular breweries served as the backdrop

The Cologne crime scene used two genuine Cologne breweries to depict the “Hugos Eck” pub.
Cologne – Fans of the Cologne crime scene got their money's worth on this year's New Year's Eve.
Because on January 1, 2023 at 8:15 p.m., the Cologne cult inspectors Freddy Schenk (Dietmar Bär) and Max Ballauf (Klaus J. Behrendt) duly heralded the year for crime thriller fans.
In the latest part of the Cologne crime scene series produced for WDR, which now includes more than 80 cases, Schenk is alerted because an arson attack is being carried out on his daughter Sonja's restaurant.
The two investigators also found a charred corpse in the burned-out “miracle lamp” – which is why Ballauf and Schenk, as we know them, subsequently asked around all over Cologne who it could be.

"Protective measures" is the name of the latest crime scene, which premiered on January 1, 2023.
In some scenes, Ballauf and Schenk are out and about in the fictitious pub "Hugos Eck" - and both the facade and the interior should look familiar to many Cologne residents.
Because the scenes in which the investigator duo can be seen in front of the pub were filmed in front of the Lommerzheim brewery in Deutz, reports 24RHEIN.
The cult bar, commonly known in Cologne as "Lommi", only serves as a shooting location from the outside - the makers of the latest Cologne crime scene have chosen a different location for the inner life of the pub.

After Lommerzheim: The horror chamber brewery is also part of the new Tatort edition
In fact, guests of the "Hugos Eck" actually enter the Brauhaus Schreckenskammer, not far from Cologne Cathedral and in direct connection to the Eigelstein district, which represents the general scenery for the latest case of Ballauf and Schenk.
In terms of content, it's about "showing a Veedel that has grown over the years and that, despite its diversity, sees itself as a cultural unity," says director Nina Vukovic.
With all (including criminal) excesses that go with it.
The episode will be available in the ARD media library until the summer of 2023.
By the way: Most recently, the Cologne crime scene actors were honored for 25 years "on duty".
